Participating in Online Project Discussion Groups

Only registered members of Global Network may enter online internal project discussion groups associated with this Web site. RTI makes every effort to limit access to internal online discussion groups to Global Network members, but RTI cannot guarantee the confidentiality of online discussion groups.

RTI will monitor project discussion groups, but will not screen new messages before they are posted.

Project discussion groups should be used to discuss issues related to this project. RTI encourages the discussion and exchange of ideas and welcomes Members of all nationalities, racial and ethnic groups, and religions.

Effective discussion groups require mutual respect and cooperation. RTI will not tolerate expressions of bigotry, hatred, harassment, abuse, or harm to anyone. RTI will not tolerate threatening, defamatory, tasteless or indecorous statements, or sexually explicit material. Passwords, credit card numbers, and other confidential information should not be posted in the discussion area. Do not post links to Web sites containing material that may be offensive to other members.

RTI reserves the right to remove messages we believe may be offensive to other members, may relate to illegal activity, or that promote commercial activity not related to this project. RTI also reserves the right to deny access to any member we believe has posted offensive or illegal messages, who persistently promotes commercial concerns unrelated to this project, or who we believe has become a nuisance to other discussion group Members.

Online discussions are very different from face-to-face communication. Only your words travel over the network - facial expressions, tone of voice, and other live conversational nuances are completely absent from these discussions.

Please pay careful attention to how you use words. Teasing and sarcasm, for example, can be misunderstood easily - that's why people sometimes type symbols (emoticons) such as:

:-)

(look at it sideways) when they want others to know a statement is meant in jest.

Remember that words you enter in a burst of inspired passion or indignant anger will be there for everyone to read long after your intense feelings are gone. This is not meant to discourage spontaneity and expression, but only to remind you of the potential consequences of what you write.

You may, from time-to-time, find yourself disagreeing with someone in the discussion. At times like this, keep in mind that it is safer and more polite to take issue with that person's comments than to attack them personally.

You should avoid language that could be offensive to other Members. There are no fixed rules about this - just remember we are a diverse group of people from different countries, cultures, and religions.
