The PAHEF Small Grants Program provides small grants in the range of US$ 5,000 - US$ 25,000 (EUR 3,900 - EUR 19,400) for health improvement projects of one or two year’s duration.

PAHEF is interested in projects that would impact two Millennium Development Goals: goal 4, to reduce child mortality, and goal 5, to improve maternal health. PAHEF therefore focuses on two separate, general thematic areas of work:
• Theme A. Enhancing Infection Control Practices
• Theme B. Improving the Health of Indigenous Peoples
Possible areas of project activities are: promote good public health behaviours; build health system capacity; use health technology/information technology. For theme B a suggested area of project acticivity could be "Recently installed latrines are not used by community members".
The program will give special consideration to pilot projects, to projects that can be replicated across Latin America and the Caribbean, and projects that support operations research, teaching, the development of protocols, or related approaches to solving problems.
Requirements include:
• Technical and financial resources to design, execute and evaluate an intervention that can be completed in 12 to 24 months
• Experience working with indigenous communities
• Capacity to carry out small demonstration projects
• Proposals should demonstrate sustainability, innovation, cultural sensitivity, and the fostering of partnerships, including public-private partnerships, with other stakeholders.
Contact: PAHEF, Small Grants Program, 525 Twenty-Third Street, Washington, DC, 20037-2895. Proposals may be submitted electronically in PDF format, with signatures.
